My son 15 has a bedroom. My Daughter 18 has her bedroom. I sleep in the living room in my bed. I was told by the police i Rosemount,Mn that this is illegal? I dont know the answer to it?

I have never heard of anything like that.

You can't legally call some rooms bedrooms if selling or renting out a house, but you are free to sleep wherever you want in your own house as far as I am aware.

That would have to be some odd local ordinance if true... here is a copy of the Rosemount city code...

If it is a rental, there may be an occupancy limit in the lease agreement- but I've never heard of a city ordinance restricting that in a private/owned home.

I had a studio apartment with a fold out hideabed. But this was in Minneapolis. Who knows what a town like Rosemount might have in mind. Maybe big transient families? Got no clue.

How do the police know your bed is in the living room?

Would that make pull-out sleeper sofas and futons illegal too? Sounds crazy to me.

Next time ask the police officer what state statute that policy falls under and watch him stutter.
